Kolkata is a city that carries its history in its buildings — in the domes, colonnades, spires, and carved façades that line its streets. For most of the city's life, these structures have belonged to the day. After dark, they disappeared. That changed when Mudar Patherya, a passionate heritage activist and Kolkata lover began systematically illuminating Kolkata's architectural landmarks — not with flashy festival lighting, but with warm, architectural light that reveals, in darkness, what had always been there. Starting with the Manicktala Clock Tower and growing through crowdfunding from nearly 200 citizens, the project has now illuminated over 112 structures across the city.
